Rolls Royce Dawn Announced : News
ROLLS-ROYCE has announced the name of its forthcoming new car, a drophead that will be known as the Rolls-Royce Dawn. The car was unveiled to the company’s dealers today in Los Angeles.
The Dawn is the next model in a line-up that has grown gradually since the marque was relaunched in 2003 after its acquisition by BMW.
Following on from Phantom, Ghost and Wraith, it comes in advance of an SUV (currently known as Project Cullinan) that the company has confirmed it will start producing, probably in 2017.
“Our new Rolls-Royce Dawn promises a striking, seductive encounter like no other Rolls-Royce to date,” said Torsten Mueller-Oetvoes, Rolls-Royce’s CEO.
“Dawn is a beautiful new open-top motor car with a name that suggests the fresh opportunities that every new day holds – an awakening, an opening up of one’s senses and a burst of sunshine.
"It will be the most social of super-luxury motor cars for those beautiful people who wish to bathe in the sunlight of the world’s social hotspots.”
The car will revive the name of a rare Rolls-Royce first used in 1949, but only ever applied to 28 very special drophead bodies between 1950 and 1954.
The original Silver Dawn was the first Rolls-Royce to be offered with a factory-built body (as opposed to the coach-built bodies of the company’s cars in the pre-war period).
The drophead Rolls-Royces that carried the name Dawn continued to be coach-built for individual customers, ensuring their rarity.
