2016 Audi Prologue Avant : Concept Cars

Audi has published a series of images that preview a new show car called prologue avant. The company’s next concept will be presented to the public for the first time next month at the Geneva Motor Show.

Penned by Marc Lichte, Audi’s new design director, the prologue avant concept is a shooting brake version of the prologue coupe that debuted last November at the Los Angeles Motor Show. The prologue’s front end appears to carry over to the avant with only minor modifications but the concept gains an extra set of doors and a rakish D-pillar that gives it a sporty silhouette. The avant gets angular tail lamps connected by a thin light bar, a styling cue that emphasizes the wagon’s width, while the wheel arches are filled by 22-inch alloys.

Like the coupe, the prologue avant packs a simple yet futuristic cockpit with a fully digital instrument cluster inspired by the one found in the third-gen TT. The bulk of the switchgear has been replaced by touch-sensitive OLED surfaces that let the driver and the front passenger control individual infotainment systems.

Audi has not revealed what the prologue avant is powered by. The prologue concept that bowed in LA was powered by a 605-horsepower 4.0-liter TFSI V8 engine, and a 677-horsepower plug-in hybrid version of it dubbed prologue piloted driving concept was shown last month at the Consumer Electronics Show that took place in Las Vegas. All three concepts are underpinned by a brand new platform that will be used by the next-gen A8.

Full details about the Audi prologue avant concept will emerge over the coming weeks. If built, Audi’s latest concept will fight head-to-head against the Mercedes-Benz CLS Shooting Brake.
