Dashboard Grip Strip : Accessories
Dashboard Grip Strip : Accessories

Like the clinging feet of a tenacious gecko, the Grip Strip will hold just about anything in place. And all without a single magnet, velcro strip, or sticky adhesive in sight.

Thanks to the revolutionary polymer compound that its made from, this advanced silicone material grips everything from iPads to Sat Navs. Just slap it on your dashboard, desk or wall and place your items on top. As if by magic, your possessions will defy the forces of nature and be held in place – it's an incredibly satisfying miracle of modern science to behold.

Resistant to water, high temperatures and sunlight, it’s perfectly at home wherever you choose to put it. And it never needs replenishing either – when the stickiness begins to wear off, just wipe it with a damp towel and it’ll be as good as new. We're pretty sure that this doesn't apply to geckos though.

It's A Strip With Grip!
We use our phones while driving far more often than we should. It is our GPS, way of asking Auntie what the directions are, texting our friends, and method of looking up local eateries around our destination. However, we do this while we’re driving a one-ton death machine. If you want to keep your phone out of your hands, but still need it to find your way, then you’ll want a mount of sorts to keep it within your field of vision, without having it in your grasp. The Grip Strip is a sticky pad for your dashboard that will keep your phone in place. It’s made of a polymer compound that will keep pretty much whatever you stick on it in place. While it is primarily meant for navigation systems or flat-backed phones, this would also work for pens, sunglasses, and pretty much anything else you want to keep in place. Well, maybe not your coffee, as that is never going to go well.

It’s resistant to water, high temperatures, sunlight, and if it starts to lose its stickiness, just wipe it down with a wet towel. It is not recommended that you stick this to any airbag panels, for what seems like obvious reasons. Thankfully, this shouldn’t stain or leave a residue, and that should work both ways. Getting one of these will cost you around $12, while getting a back of three will cost around $30. You’ll have the option of getting these in red, black, or blue.

1970 Aston Martin DBS : Classic Cars
1970 Aston Martin DBS : Classic Cars

In 1967 the DBS was intended to replace the DB6, but production of the latter did not stop until 1970. Due to customer demand a V8 version was developed.

In 1966, Touring of Milan had been commissioned to design the DB6 replacement and two striking prototypes had been produced before the design house went out of business.

William Towns was hastily brought in to design the new car, which was unveiled at Blenheim Palace on September 25, 1967, and initially only intended for limited production. In its original guise the DBS retained the six-cylinder, 3,995 cc engine, available in Standard or Vantage form as used in the DB6. The original plan had been to use an all new V8 engine, but this was not ready in time.

The clean, modern lines of the new DBS found favour with many owners who required more interior space, and the car was a full four seater. The adoption of a De Dion rear axle was a departure from previous models and the striking grille design was still unmistakably Aston Martin. In order to counter the increased weight of the DBS, the Vantage version boasted revised camshafts to boost performance. In April 1972, a revised DBS was introduced with two headlamps rather than four. Simply called the AM Vantage, 70 examples of this model were produced.

The second Aston Martin to star in the James Bond film series, a DBS had a starring role in the 1969 George Lazenby movie ‘On Her Majesty’s Secret Service’. This was a one-off Bond appearance for both actor and car; it would be another 18 years before 007 would drive an Aston Martin again.

After an announcement on 27 September, 1969, the DBS was made available with the long awaited V8 engine, with the car being known as the DBSV8 – a four-seat grand touring car, capable of 160 mph. As with the straight six, the design of the new V8 engine was the work of Tadek Marek. With a capacity of 5340cc and 4 overhead camshafts with Bosch mechanical fuel injection, the DBSV8 was the fastest 4 seater production car in the world at the time. This engine was to form the basis of all Aston Martin power plants for the next 20 years.

Apart from the change of engine, notable visual differences were the specially designed 15’’ GKN light alloy wheels (as opposed to the distinctive wire wheels employed on the DBS), with ventilated brake discs for the first time on an Aston Martin production car. A Chrysler Toqueflite auto transmission was offered as an alternative to the ZF manual 5 speed unit.

In common with the 6 cylinder DBS, the DBSV8 was produced until May 1972, after which the car adopted the later single headlamp front end. New owner, Company Developments Ltd, renamed the car AM V8.

Infiniti LE EV Concept Shelved : News
Infiniti LE EV Concept Shelved : News

It’s been nearly three years since the Infiniti LE “production intent” electric car concept debuted at the 2012 New York Auto Show, and we’ve heard nary a peep about it since. It seems that when Nissan LEAF sales didn’t take off like some had hoped, Infiniti reevaluated its need for an electric vehicle, and AutoGuide reports that plans to build the LE have been shelved for now.

This may have been a wise move, especially now that reports say the next Nissan LEAF could offer between 150 and 200 miles of driving range per charge, about double what owners can expect right now. While an Infiniti badge could have allowed for a higher price and a bigger battery, Nissan’s luxury brand has decided to focus on higher-volume sedan and SUV sales instead.

No doubt Infiniti designers have also been paying attention to the success of the Tesla Model S, noting that well-heeled buyers will pay a premium price for a well-done electric vehicle. So rather than just rebadge a LEAF, perhaps the automaker has decided to take the next-gen drivetrain and put it into a more premium product. That would be the best move, and could enter the market a few years before the German segment brings their own long-range EVs to the table.

Nissan has remained committed to electric vehicles despite lower-than-expected sales, and I’ve got to imagine it’s simply a matter of time before Infiniti brings their own EV to market.

It just probably won’t be anything like the LE Concept that we were expecting.

Ram Rebel 1500 : Concept Cars
Ram Rebel 1500 : Concept Cars

The Detroit auto show is one for the masses, the show will deliver regardless of what style of vehicle you are looking for. Truck fanatics can rejoice today as Ram has finally unveiled the highly anticipated 2015 Ram 1500 Rebel.

When examining the exterior of the 2015 Ram 1500 Rebel we see a profound focus on the large black grill that is branded with the Ram logo. The 2015 Ram 1500 Rebel will come with 17’’ alloy wheels giving clearance to drive through most extreme conditions (such as heavy snowfall). With air suspension, drivers should see an industry leading, 10.3 inches off the ground.

The interior of the 2015 Ram 1500 Rebel at the Detroit auto show exhibitions a sleek red trim that contrasts with beautiful black upholstery. The 1500 Rebel will debut a new console box that will have tech minded users covered. It will be able to hold tablets, cellphones, and will do so very snug. No longer will the driver need to buy accessories to hold their phones in their cars.

Internal specs do lack for those looking to speed across sand dunes in Egypt but the Rebel packs enough power to drive in most cities and countryside. Ram will offer drivers customization for the most part through two engine choices. Drivers can choose from a 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 or the 5.7-liter Hemi V-8. The Pentastar engine will give drivers 305 horse powers where as the Hemi engine will give drivers 395 horse power. The 2015 Ram 1500 Rebel will only come with automatic 8-speed transition to start with. Ram has yet to release the price of the 2015 1500 Rebel. Based on the specs and design it should be on the more affordable end of the power wagon spectrum.

Concluding we see that the 2015 1500 Ram Rebel looks to be an affordable yet still powerful truck. With its current internal specs, we are sure that it will be enough to get through most terrains, and carry/pull heavy. Bob Hegbloom CEO of Ram has stated that its 2015 Ram 1500 Rebel will be introduced in the second quarter of 2015.

A global Jeep design for a rapidly growing global brand From the start, Jeep designers knew the Renegade would need to deliver best-in-class off-road capability with city-sized proportions that exuded the brand’s rugged style while at the same time enhancing versatility, maneuverability and style. Additionally designers were tasked to create an all-new SUV that would symbolize the brand’s renowned American design and ingenuity, as it would mark the Jeep brand’s first entry into the small SUV segment in more than 100 markets around the globe. Last, Renegade had to offer the open-air freedom that dates back to its 1941 roots with the Willys MB Jeep.

The result is the all-new 2015 Renegade, a vehicle that builds on the Jeep Wrangler’s powerful stance, and features fresh new styling with rugged body forms and aggressive proportions that enable best-in-class approach and departure angles purposely designed to deliver best-in-class off-road capability. And for segment-exclusive panoramic views, two available My Sky open-air roof panel systems conveniently stow to provide passengers open-air freedom with ease.

Its precisely crafted detail, innovative and high-quality color and material appointments, state-of-the-art technology, and clever storage features draw inspiration from contemporary extreme sports gear and lifestyles.

The interior of the all-new 2015 Jeep Renegade has a distinctive form language which Jeep designers have titled “Tek-Tonic.” This new design theme is defined by the intersections of soft and tactile forms with rugged and functional details. Major surfaces such as the sculpted soft-touch instrument panel are intersected with bold functional elements like the passenger grab handle – indispensable for off-road adventures and borrowed from its big brother, the legendary Jeep Wrangler. Unique “protective clamp fasteners,” anodized design accents and inspired colors are derived from extreme sports equipment, while the newly familiar “X” shapes inspired by its roof and tail lamps add to Renegade’s Tek-Tonic interior look. And to make sure all of the needed passenger gear fits, the Renegade is designed with an efficient and flexible interior package that includes a removable, reversible and height-adjustable cargo floor panel and fold-forward front-passenger seat.

Keeping the tradition of the legendary 1941 Willys MB Jeep, the all-new 2015 Renegade offers open-air freedom with two available My Sky open-air roof systems. With a manual removable, or removable with premium power tilt/slide feature, the segment-exclusive My Sky roof-panel systems quickly bring the outdoors inside. Designed for convenience, the honeycomb fiberglass polyurethane roof panels are lightweight and stow neatly in the rear cargo area. For added design detail, both My Sky roof systems feature a debossed “X” stamped into the roof that exude strength and play on the brand’s utilitarian history.

Designed and engineered to first and foremost deliver legendary Jeep 4x4 capability, the all-new 2015 Renegade is the first small SUV from Chrysler Group to use the all-new “small-wide 4x4 architecture.” With its fully independent suspension capable of up to 205 mm (8.1 inches) of wheel articulation and 220 mm (8.7 inches) of ground clearance (Trailhawk), Renegade raises the bar in the small SUV segment with best-in-class off-road capability. Extensive use of advanced steels, composites and advanced computer-impact simulations enable the all-new 2015 Renegade’s architecture to deliver world-class torsional stiffness and Jeep brand’s durability required for Trail Rated adventures.

The all-new Renegade is the first Jeep to integrate Koni’s frequency selective damping (FSD) front and rear strut system. This damping system enables the Jeep Renegade to deliver world-class road-holding and handling characteristics.

Like the new Jeep Cherokee, the all-new 2015 Jeep Renegade has raised the bar — this time in the small SUV class — with the first available nine-speed automatic transmission. When paired with either the 2.0-liter MultiJet II diesel engine, or 2.4-liter MultiAir2 gas engine, the nine-speed transmission delivers numerous benefits customers will appreciate, including aggressive launches, smooth power delivery at highway speeds and improved fuel efficiency versus a six-speed automatic transmission.

Segment-exclusive technologies once found only on higher classed SUVs

The all-new 2015 Jeep Renegade offers technology features once found only in upper-segment vehicles, and makes them attainable to customers in the growing small SUV segment – including award-winning Uconnect Access, Uconnect touchscreens and the segment’s largest full-color instrument cluster.

Designed in America and crafted in Italy, the 2015 Renegade continues the Jeep brand’s dedication to the global marketplace and demonstrates the depths of its available resources. The final assembly location for the Renegade will be at the Melfi Assembly Plant. The Renegade’s global portfolio of powertrain production includes the United States, Italy and Brazil.

1970 Citroen SM : Classic Cars
1970 Citroen SM : Classic Cars

The SM was the most tangible result of Citroen's short lived ownership of Maserati. The car combined the pinnacle of Citroen hydraulics with a glorious Alfieri designed Maserati V6 engine all combined in an spaceship like body designed by Robert Opron.

Structurally the monocoque was a further designed version of the DS with two massive arms swooping forward from the cabin, holding the engine and the front suspension, this time with trailing arms rather than the leading ones as used in the DS. Almost anything possible was supported by hydraulics, the suspension, brakes and the steering but also the inner of the three front lights could be hydraulically turned and leveled.

The 2.7 litre 90 degree V6 in the first bunch of cars was fitted with three twin-choke Weber Carburetors, which proved to be troublesome. By mid-1972 the Webers were replaced by electronic Fuel Injection, an option which many owners also applied as a retrofit. Interestingly the engine bay was already so filled up that the control unit of the EFI had to put where the glove box used to be. The automatic equipped version of the car had a three litre version of the engine.

The power steering was self centering, requiring some getting used to, while also the directness of steering increased with speed, resulting in fingertip movements while cruising at speed on the motorway, where the fuel injected versions could reach more than 140 mph, thanks to the slippery shape of the body.

Like so many supercars built in the early seventies the car fell victim to the first oil crisis and production stopped in 1975. In an interesting comment made earlier this year in Classic and Sportscar it is mentioned that at least nobody would mistake you for a football player when driving this car. Among the many celebrities that owned one in its time was no other than Johan Cruyff, which arguably counts as one of the greatest players of all times.

All-New Ford Focus RS : Videos

All-New Ford Focus RS : Videos

The Ford Focus RS saga continues with Ford confirming its mega hatch is go, plus video of it drifting around a test track

Ford has finally confirmed that the Mk3 Focus RS will make production, and will be sold largely unchanged around the world for the first time. Prices, specifications and exact performance figures are currently unknown, but it has released a tantalising teaser video showing the car drifting around Ford's Lommel proving ground in Belgium, and confirmed first images and information will break cover on Feb 3 2015.

Footage of the car sliding sideways around a wet track has added fuel to the rumours that Ford will ditch its predecessor's front-wheel drive layout and opt for a grippier four-wheel drive setup. Power output is expected to fall somewhere between 350bhp and 400bhp, putting it eye-to-eye with other four-wheel drive hot hatches including the 355bhp Mercedes A45 AMG and 362bhp Audi RS3.

The new Ford Focus RS is one of more than 12 new performance vehicles due for international release by 2020. It forms part of the company’s plan to provide more cars, parts and accessories to more people, more quickly – through a new global Ford Performance team.

The Focus RS has been noticeable in its absence since the standard Mk3 went on sale in 2011. There have been plenty of rumours and countless spy shots over the past 12 months, but no confirmation – until now – that the car would go on sale in the UK.

Already responsible for the first Arabian supercar – the Lykan Hypersport – W Motors is pushing forward with development of its second model. It will be dubbed the Lykan Supersport and will be even more extreme than the Hypersport and won’t feature such a limited production run.

For starters, W Motors has just announced that the Lykan Supersport will be developed alongside an eco-friendly racing program from watchmaker Franck Muller and Spanish company Quimera. With this in mind, a racing variant of the Supersport is also in the works with it set to be dubbed the Lykan Supersport HSF. Check out the new gallery!

W Motors Supersport W Motors Supersport W Motors Supersport W Motors Supersport W Motors Supersport W Motors Supersport The HSF in the name stands for Hybrid Synthetic Fuel and the car is speculated to utilise synthetic fuel created through renewable means. Another partner for the project is Air Fuel Synthesis which currently creates fuel similar to methanol through wind and solar power. When it is all said and done, the racing Lykan Supersport HSF will reportedly be the firm’s first carbon-neutral car delivering over 1000 hp.

As for the road-going Lykan Supersport, it too will produce more than 1000 hp and tip the scales at around 1200 kg. Compared to the seven units of the Hypersport produced, 25 examples of the Supersport are expected to be available.

2015 Ford Mustang Ecoboost : Current Models
2015 Ford Mustang Ecoboost : Current Models

The 2015 Ford Mustang EcoBoost is the answer to a question that was asked during the last oil crisis. Which, if you were born later than 1979, was blessedly over by the time you arrived. In the aftermath, Ford took a whack at the challenge of creating a sporty fuel-sipper with the turbocharged four-cylinder Mustang SVO, which was available from 1984 through 1986. The market yawned. Fuel prices crashed, and anyway, we don’t buy pony cars for their efficiency. A four-cylinder, no matter what its output on paper, is nothing short of the downright emasculation of the American dream.

And yet there’s not much to complain about this EcoBoost Mustang other than it’s more expensive than the base V-6 while offering very similar performance. Also, it drones like, well, like a four-cylinder. Ford has tried to punch up the exhaust note via the stereo system, but it’s no use. This turbo four speaks with no more verve than any Audi turbo four. And that’s a high compliment, because the engine, as well as the car it’s installed in, is quite refined.

Just a few minutes behind the new Mustang’s wheel convince you that Ford was aiming high with this car. The cabin isolation, the structural stiffness, the body control, and the finish quality are huge improvements over the last model. Is it all down to the independent rear suspension? Sure, some of it is. Over cracked pavement the car doesn’t shudder or clomp as hard as it did before. And a midcorner pavement heave isn’t going to have you fighting the steering wheel as you once did, because such things are now digested without complaint by the unsprung bits.

Ah, but what about the four’s acceleration? On the track, it lays down numbers almost identical to the last V-6 model, which was more than 100 pounds lighter than our Premium-trim automatic-transmission 2015 Mustang EcoBoost. The 60-mph mark comes in 5.2 seconds, the quarter-mile covered in 13.9 seconds at 98 mph. This is about what pre-Coyote-engine Mustang GTs once ran. So the EcoBoost is no EcoDud.

As with any turbo, there’s some hesitation as the turbo boils up. But this a high-tech aluminum engine, fitted with direct injection and cam phasing (it even takes regular gas!), and it doesn’t make you wait long. Nor are its power lumps especially pronounced. The torque flows in a pretty even rush to the transmission, and in most situations you have to be looking for the turbo lag to really notice it. As we said, refined!

Ford tuned the six-speed automatic to be a willing partner, meaning it downshifts quickly and gets the 2.3-liter spinning when you want a rapid departure. No, it’s not as neck-bending as the V-8, nor is it quite as instantaneous as the V-6, but when the power comes, it comes big enough to break the rear loose.

The EcoBoost drives similarly to the new GT, in that the basic suspension tune is forgiving and bumpy roads produce not a slamming but only a light rocking in the body. Around corners, this highly optioned car’s hefty mass—it weighed 3663 pounds—pulls the body into a noticeable lean, but the car doesn’t wallow or flop. It lets the weight set and then cuts a clean path through the corner.

Everything about this Mustang is upgraded, from the dashboard trimmings, which now include the optional full-zoot MyFord Touch system, to the way its stretched sheetmetal and slip of a roofline look modern going down the road. Ford’s job was to update its icon, and we’d say the mission was accomplished with aplomb.

As mentioned, our car was a Premium model, which adds four grand and a pile of equipment—the full rundown can be found here—to the $25,995 EcoBoost. Our car also had the $1195 automatic gearbox, $795 navigation, and $1195 bundle that combines adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation, and rain-sensing wipers. The spicy-sounding Equipment Group 201A brought convenience features and a 12-speaker audio system for $1795, and the $1995 EcoBoost Performance package added black 19-inch wheels with Pirelli P Zero summer tires; a fatter rear antiroll bar; sportier steering, brakes, and suspension tuning; an upgrade to GT-spec rotors and four-piston calipers; a 3.55:1 limited-slip rear end; a larger radiator; and some aesthetic upgrades. With some other minor baubles stirred in, our EcoBoost Mustang cost almost $38,000, or five grand more than a base manual GT.

Now, about the fuel economy. When you put a small turbo engine into a heavy car, the savings are generally not that grand. Ask a Fisker owner if you can find one. We saw 19 mpg overall, and you can probably expect low-to-mid-20s if you like to use your car as anything other than a nun’s taxi. Don’t be surprised if a few C7 Corvette owners snicker at you at the car show. They can often approach 30 mpg with their cars (while driving like nuns) or match your economy while also taking a few 455-hp licks of the underhood candy. The EPA says this Ford can achieve 32 mpg on the highway, though, for what it’s worth.

Thus, the Mustang EcoBoost isn’t as much about efficiency as it is about refinement and technology (and, we guess, the potential for efficiency if you drive cautiously). That makes it somewhat un-Mustang-like. It certainly doesn’t sound like a Mustang, and it is far more reserved and civilized than any Mustang you’ve driven in your life. It’s more like an American Audi A5 than a pony car. Alas, if only it were lighter. There’s no doubt, though, that a certain Audi-ness was what Ford—who will sell this car in Europe and around the world—was going for.

1969 De Tomaso Mangusta : Classic Cars
1969 De Tomaso Mangusta : Classic Cars

The De Tomaso Mangusta is certainly not as famous as its Pantera successor, but is extremely rare with only 401 units built. We’re all familiar with the De Tomaso Pantera, an Italian-designed sports car that was on the market for 20 years, beginning in 1971. Hell, even Elvis Presley owned one but reportedly grew so frustrated with it constantly failing to start, he ended up firing his gun at it for some target practice. Such is the nature of Italian sports cars and owners love-hate relationship with them. But less is known about the Pantera's predecessor, the Mangusta.

Meaning "mongoose" in Italian, the name supposedly came from when company founder Alejandro de Tomaso discussed with Carroll Shelby the idea of replacing the Shelby Cobra with a racing car that would be built in Italy by De Tomaso. And since a mongoose is able to kill a Cobra, the name for the car stuck. But Shelby didn’t bite (pun intended); the business deal simply wasn't meant to be. Shelby signed with Ford instead where he went on to develop the GT40 and the rest is history. But De Tomaso still went ahead with a road car version and it finally went on sale in 1967.

Power originally came from a mid-mounted Ford 289 V8 with 306 horsepower and mated to a five-speed manual transmission sourced from ZF. In the US, buyers had to settle for a Ford 302 V8 with an output of just 221 hp. It had a top speed of around 155 mph. The car itself was visually quite stunning, yet another design courtesy of Giorgetto Giugiaro while he was working at Ghia. Like other famous cars by Giugiaro, such as the DeLorean, the Mangusta featured gullwing doors but these were placed directly over the engine and luggage compartment. Conventional side-opening doors remained for the driver and passenger.

Other mechanical features included disc brakes on all four wheels. Like other exotic cars, the Mangusta was somewhat ahead of its time by it having a four wheel independent suspension, rack and pinion steering, air conditioning and power windows. It was decently priced when it came to market but because of its 32/68 weight distribution and underdeveloped chassis, drivers had to deal with issues of poor handling and stability problems. The interior dimensions were also quite cramped and ground clearance was very low, making it difficult to drive over curbs and other bumpers without scraping the underside.

All told, just 401 Mangustas were built by the time production ended in 1971. Only 150 units were for the European market while the rest went to the US. In 1970, about 50 of these US-spec cars were given pop-up headlights as opposed to the normally standard fixed units. This 1969 De Tomaso Mangusta that’s currently up for sale on eBay has 60,150 miles on the odometer but it still runs great and has absolutely no rust. Its five-speed manual gearbox was recently rebuilt and the car itself still runs great. As of writing, only one bid has been placed but the reserve price of $125,000 wasn’t met. There is a buy it now price of $180,000.

Without question, the De Tomaso Mangusta is yet another beautifully-designed Italian exotic car that’s also quite rare. For comparison, more than 7,000 Panteras were built during its lifetime so the next owner of this Mangusta will certainly have something special in their garage.

Brietling Bentley V8 Timepiece : Accessories
Brietling Bentley V8 Timepiece : Accessories

While the watch industry likes to promote “novel ideas,” they are just as susceptible to producing formulaic items as the film industry is. One formula that seems to work on paper is the marriage of a high-end watch brand and high-end automobile maker. What could make more sense? Combine a watch people love with a car people love to drive. Maybe it makes for the perfect driving companion? Or Perhaps the perfect lifestyle companion? It doesn’t matter as long as it is popular. The problem however is that while this idea works on paper, it has rarely worked in implementation. What you see here is one of the only really successful car/watch relationships in action.

Breitling Bentley V8
It isn’t clear how the relationship started but a few years ago Breitling came out with a new watch collection called the Breitling for Bentley. Even their logos were similar, and the concept combined the classic tool watch look of Breitling with the luxurious qualities of Bentley. Each of the watches has a signature bezel meant to recall the look of Bentley grills. Dual branding on the dials was subtle with the less than bold “Breitling for Bentley” moniker. Practice has shown that bold dual branding on timepieces usually doesn’t work.

A good model to represent the collection is this Breitling Bentley GMT timepiece. Let me first say that this is a big watch. I like big watches, but this one is for large wrists only. The case is 49mm wide with a very large lug structure. This heavy timepiece will over-power smaller wrists with its size. It comes in 18k red gold or steel on a rubber strap or steel bracelet.

Inside the watch is a Breitling caliber 47B base Swiss ETA automatic chronograph movement. The movement has been expanded with a GMT complication module. Functions include the time, date, 12 hour chronograph, and 24 hour second time zone hand. Using the fixed flange ring city indicators you can also tell the time all over the world. The movement is further tested and given a COSC Chronometer certificate for accuracy.

While Breitling branding is emphasized on the front of the watch, Bentley branding is emphasized on the rear of it. There you’ll find the Bentley name and logo at the top, with a note that the piece is “manufactured in Switzerland by Breitling.” Classy touch. The overall design of the Breitling Bentley GMT is a unique take on Breitling’s core look with some added distinction. Super bold in its execution, you should try one of these on first if you are interested in owning it.

Tesla Driect Sales In CT? : News
Tesla Driect Sales In CT? : News

obbying from a fellow legislator convinced Antonio Guerrera, co-chairman of the legislature's Transportation Committee, to have a public hearing on whether Tesla should be allowed to sell its cars in Connecticut.

Sen. Art Linares, R-33rd District, had to drive to Westchester County to buy a Tesla, and he told Guerrera he wanted to change Connecticut law so that Tesla can sell in the state. About 500 people in Connecticut own Teslas.

Currently in Connecticut, all new cars have to be sold through dealerships owned by outside franchisees. Tesla Motors, which manufactures the luxury electric cars in California, has showrooms in New York and Massachusetts, but in Connecticut the company only has a service garage.

Linares said when he ordered his Tesla in White Plains — he's still waiting for it to be built — those sales jobs could have been in Connecticut.

Guerrera said while he has not been lobbied by Tesla directly, its lobbying firm will be invited to speak about why the car company should be allowed to avoid setting up a dealer franchise system.

Will Nicholas, a spokesman for Tesla, said the company does not have a comment on the legislature's action, but he explained that the company sees dealers as unnecessary intermediaries between the manufacturer and the customer.

The Tesla Model S's base price, according to, is $71,000. The cars have a five-year, 50,000-mile warrantee.

"We're in control of the whole process" with direct sales, Nicholas said. "We find it more efficient to control the customer experience."

Nicholas said if the law were to change to allow direct sales, the first showroom would be in Milford, but other locations might be considered.

The company sells in 17 states now, and is lobbying to sell in Texas, Arizona, New Jersey, Michigan and Connecticut, he said.

Guerrera said he does not yet have a position on the bill, which would grant manufacturers the ability to do direct sales only for electric cars.

Committee member Sen. Carlo Leone, D- 27th District, said he won't decide how he'll vote on the matter until he hears the arguments from supporters and opponents about making an exception to the dealer franchise system.

"We'll look at what other states do as well," he said. He said if Tesla is successfully selling direct to customers in other states, "why not provide jobs to Connecticut residents?"

Jim Fleming, president of the trade association that represents Connecticut dealers, said that the danger of direct sales is a conflict of interest when it comes to warrantee work and recall work. Under the dealership arrangement, dealers are reimbursed by the manufacturer for that work, and make a profit on it. But if the manufacturer is also running the service garage, he worries, it would not be as assertive about publicizing the need to come in for recall work.

He acknowledged that Tesla would have a business interest in maintaining its reputation by providing good service. But he said, "The bigger issue with a company like Tesla is where you run into a situation with bankruptcy."

He said that Yugo sold direct to Connecticut consumers decades ago, and when it went under, the consumers were left holding the bag.

If Tesla cars were sold by dealerships also selling BMWs and Mercedes, he said, those dealers would continue to support repairs of those cars if Tesla went out of business.

Linares said, "Tesla's a strong company, it shows no sign of going belly up. I don't think that's a real issue."

Linares said Tesla is growing, and would provide good-paying jobs if it could open showrooms in Connecticut. The cars are American-made, good for the environment, and he said, "I think we should welcome them with open arms."

McLaren 650S Le Mans : Concept Cars
McLaren 650S Le Mans : Concept Cars

McLaren Special Operations has announced a limited-edition 650S, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the McLaren F1 GTR’s victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race.

Dubbed 650S Le Mans, 50 examples will be made in coupé form only by the bespoke arm of McLaren Automotive. Each car will cost £244,500, with deliveries commencing in the middle of the year.

Power comes from the same 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V8 motor found in the standard McLaren 650S, producing 641bhp and 500lb ft. Performance figures remain unchanged from those of the standard 650S coupé, with the 0-62mph sprint taking 3.0sec and a 207mph top speed, according to the British supercar manufacturer.

The 650S Le Mans is a design collaboration between MSO and Peter Stevens, the designer of the McLaren F1 supercar. A number of styling cues are taken from the iconic 1995 Le Mans-winning racer, including a roof-mounted ‘snorkel’ air intake. Finished in metallic Sarthe Grey, the colour also harks back to the race-winning F1 GTR.

The limited-edition model features a carbonfibre front splitter and rear bumper and an MSO-developed rear diffuser and side blades. Lightweight ‘Le Mans Edition’ 19in alloy wheels feature at the front with 20in wheels at the rear, styled around the 1995 F1 GTR racer’s rims. Carbon-ceramic brakes are standard.

Inside, the 650S Le Mans is furnished with black leather and Alcantara trim, while the sports seats are wrapped in black with contrasting orange Alcantara. The anniversary edition gains Le Mans logos on the headrests and on the floor mats.

McLaren says buyers of the 650S Le Mans will receive an exclusive invitation for the owner plus a guest to join McLaren at the Le Mans circuit for a 20th anniversary celebration of the victory. At the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans, five McLaren F1 GTRs crossed the line, finishing first, third, fourth, fifth and thirteenth.

1979 BMW M1 : Classic Cars
1979 BMW M1 : Classic Cars

There is perhaps no single letter more regarded in the performance car world than BMW's M. But before it appeared on cars like the M3 and M5, it lent itself to the M1.

The M1 (designated E26 internally) was BMW's first mid-engined car. It was initially conceived to compete in Group 4 and Group 5 racing, which stipulated at least 400 cars be produced to homologate it for the purpose. The car was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro and originally slated for production through a partnership with Lamborghini, though the deal fell through. Instead, the tubular chassis was built by Marchesi, Trasformazione Italiana Resina handled the fiberglass body, and final assembly was completed at the German convertible manufacturer Baur.

Production delays plagued the M1 and effectively ended any chance of having the cars ready to compete in Group 5. Instead, BMW created a one-make support series for the Formula One calendar called Procar, which would pair race-prepped M1s with retired F1 pilots. The series is but a footnote in the history of motorsport.

But what of the car itself? With just 455 produced from 1978 to 1981 (399 road cars, 56 race cars), the M1 remains one of the rarest BMWs ever built. It looks like no other BMW before or since, with the twin kidney bean grille its most distinctive BMW feature. Otherwise, the car's wedge lines were clean and simple, a departure from so many other mid-engined supercars of the era.

Power came from a mid-mounted, longitudinally aligned, 24-valve 3.5-liter inline-6 with Kugelfischer mechanical fuel injection. Power was delivered to the rear wheels through a 5-speed ZF gearbox. In street trim it was good for 277 hp and 243 ft-lb of torque, enough power to get the 3,200-lb car to 62 mph in 5.6 seconds on its way to a 162 mph top speed. This is the engine that would go on to power the first-generation M5 sedan.

In Procar guise (which shared most specs with Group 4), the M1 delivered 470 hp, while cars built to Group 5 specs utilized a smaller turbocharged 3.2-liter engine capable of 850 hp.

Suspension was independent all around, through coil springs and twin A-arms, while servo-assisted ventilated disc brakes with Bosch ABS took care of stopping needs. Overall, handling is quite neutral, with excellent grip from the 16-inch Pirelli P7 tires.

Road cars lacked nothing in creature comforts. Interiors were standard black and gray, with Recaro sport seats, air conditioning, power windows and mirrors, a three-spoke M steering wheel, and a heated rear window. Fit and finish throughout the car were in keeping with typical Teutonic attention to detail.

Yet another footnote in the M1 story is the "art car" created by pop artist Andy Warhol, whose Group 4 racer finished sixth overall at the 1979 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Though the M1 proved a short-lived experiment, the stir and commotion it caused in period have immortalized it in the eyes of enthusiasts, and today it remains a viable and alluring alternative to many of the contemporaries that came out of Italy during the same era.

Mark LeNeve : Interesting People : LinkedIn
Mark LeNeve : Interesting People : Twitter

Ford Motor Co. today said Mark LaNeve, a former top sales executive at General Motors, will take over as its new head of U.S. sales, marketing and service as of Feb. 1.

LaNeve, 55, replaces John Felice, who was the company’s U.S. sales chief for only 15 months. Ford said Felice, 53, “has elected to retire” after a 30-year career at the automaker.

His appointment comes a week after Stephen Odell started as Ford’s global sales, service and marketing chief, swapping jobs with Jim Farley, who now runs Ford of Europe.

“With nearly three decades of proven experience to draw upon,” Odell said in a statement, “Mark brings the right skills to continue building the Ford brand while creating a stronger retail experience for our customers, making it even easier for them to interact with their dealer and with Ford -- and helping us profitably grow.”

Felice’s departure follows a year in which Ford’s U.S. market share dropped a full point to 14.9 percent, the lowest level since 2008. Ford sales fell 0.6 percent in 2014 -- a drop it blamed largely on the changeover to the newest version of its F-150 pickup --vs. a 7 percent gain for the rest of the industry.

Ford said LaNeve will oversee all marketing, sales, service and dealer relations in the U.S., focusing on “innovative new digital communications and transforming the retail experience for customers.”

LaNeve will report jointly to Odell and Joe Hinrichs, Ford’s president of the Americas. He left GM in the months after its 2009 bankruptcy and spent nearly three years as a top executive with the insurance giant Allstate Corp. before joining Ford’s advertising agency, Global Team Ford, in August 2012 as COO.

Earlier in his career, LaNeve was CEO of Volvo Cars of North America from 1999 to 2001, when Ford owned it. He was chief marketing officer there from 1997 to 1999.

GM and 'Mayhem'

GM’s sales and market share declined significantly during LaNeve’s five-year tenure as its North American sales and marketing chief, though that slide began long before his arrival. He worked closely with sales analyst Paul Ballew, whom Ford hired in December as its chief data and analytics officer.

At Allstate, LaNeve helped create the well-known “Mayhem” advertising campaign.

Felice joined Ford in April 1984. Among his previous roles at the company were head of Ford and Lincoln sales, head of Ford and Lincoln marketing, and president of Ford Thailand. He was general sales manager of Ford and Lincoln prior to becoming U.S. sales chief.

“John has had a long and successful career as a key leader serving us around the world for more than 30 years,” Hinrichs said in a statement.

“Among his many contributions, John led the Ford brand revitalization in the U.S., resulting in an unprecedented improvement in customer favorability, and was a strong advocate for our dealers, ensuring their participation in our business planning process and further strengthening our relationship with them. We thank John for his many years of service and wish him all the best going forward.”

2015 Lotus Elise S Cup : Current Models
2015 Lotus Elise S Cup : Current Models

After being spied testing on the Nurburgring Nordschleife on multiple occasions, the wraps have officially been taken off the 2015 Lotus Elise S Cup. Created as a road-going variant of the Elise S Cup R racer, the hardcore Elise is the most potent the company has ever offered for street us.

Powering the 2015 Lotus Elise S Cup is the same 1.8-litre supercharged four-cylinder engine as the Cup R race car. As a result, it produces an identical 217 hp at 6800 rpm as well as 184 lb-ft of torque at 4600 rpm. Thanks to these figures and the meagre overall weight of the Elise S Cup (just 932kg), it can rocket from zero to 96 km/h (60 mph) in just 4.2 seconds as well as a top speed of 225 km/h!

From a visual and aerodynamic front, the Lotus Elise S Cup is essentially identical to the Cup R. As a result, it features the same revised front bumper including the addition of a massive carbon fibre front splitter, new side skirts helping to provide additional downforce, lightened sports wheels and more. Those wheels measure 16-inch at the front and 17-inch in the rear and feature 175/55 ZR16 and 225/45 ZR17 Yokohama Advan Neova tyres respectively. At the back, the same rear wing as the Cup R is featured as is the massive rear diffuser and centrally exiting tailpipe.

This kit helps add an extra 66 kg of downforce at 160 km/h as well as 125 kg of additional downforce at the car’s 225 km/h top speed. Thanks to these additions as well as the potent little engine, it laps the small British automaker’s test track a full three seconds faster than the Elise S.

One key area where the road car differs however is that it is wearing standard Lotus Elise headlights. By comparison, the track-only special features completely black headlights because it doesn’t need them. A road-going example does of course. Finally, the production car doesn’t feature the racing livery of the Cup R.

Discussing the 2015 Lotus Elise Cup S, the company’s boss Jean-Marc Gales said, “The Lotus Elise S Cup is all about the pure driving experience with the Lotus attributes of high performance, light weight and excellent ride and handling. It is perfect for the driver who desires a quick, authentic, desirable and competitive sports car.”

Detroit Electric SP:01 Finalizes : News
Detroit Electric SP:01 Finalizes : News

Since 2008 Detroit Electric has been attempting to break into the world of plug-in cars, and its first vehicle, Lotus-based SP:01, has finalized its production look. But will the upstart automaker finally begin production of its Tesla Roadster knockoff, or will more delays push production of the long-deferred electric sports car back even further.

With the new, supposedly more aerodynamic look locked in, Detroit Electric has also revealed the finalized specifications for performance, including a 3.7 second sprint from 0 to 60 MPH and a top speed of 155 MPH. So while it isn’t quite as quick as the Tesla Model S P85D, it does share the same top speed, and it’s two-tenths of a second quicker than the Tesla Roadster despite having a slight horsepower deficit. It’s also lighter, coming in at just 2,590 pounds, though it can go just 179 miles between charges, compared to the 245 (and soon up to 400) miles of the original Tesla Roadster.

But the Detroit Electric does have two different vehicle-to-grid capabilities, and it has already secured it a sizable order of vehicles for a zero-emissions island in South Korea. The 360 POWERBACK system, as its called, can power a home like many EVs, but it also has the capability of transferring its energy to another electric car, a unique feature of dubious usefulness I must admit. So what will all this cost you? Well the automaker has apparently finalized everything but price, though last I heard it was in the $120,000 to $135,000 range…about what you’d pay for the 691 horsepower P85D. You can, however, get a manual transmission in the SP:01, something Tesla has never offered.

Detroit Electric has big plans for a follow-up vehicle to the SP:01, but considering it’s taken over 7 years just to get the finalized look of their first car, none of us should hold out hope for its debut anytime soon. That said, I do believe Detroit Electric SP:01 will (finally) begin production soon…but will anyone care?

Now that all the major players in the auto industry are embracing plug-in cars, whatever first-mover advantage Detroit Electric may have once had long ago spoiled. That means the SP:01 will live or die based on its own merits, and so far nothing I’ve read would compel me to pick it over what Tesla has to offer. It also rubs me the wrong way that Detroit Electric decided to move its headquarters and production to Britain after swearing up and down that it would build its vehicles in the Motor City (where it technically does have offices). Now it merely hopes to move production there someday, which is the same thing Henrik Fisker said on his way to blowing through a billion dollars.

Can Detroit Electric repeat what Tesla and Elon Musk have done? Or has that time come and gone already?

2016 Hyundai Santa Cruz : Concept Cars
2016 Hyundai Santa Cruz : Concept Cars

Today, Hyundai went boldly where several other automakers have gone before and failed when it unveiled a shiny silver five-passenger crossover with a small pickup-truck bed called the Santa Cruz.

Dave Zuchowski, CEO of Hyundai North America said the Korean automaker has deeply researched U.S. consumers and believes there is a demand for a crossover vehicle that has a truck bed that can be used to haul soccer gear, snowboards and other recreational equipment that millennials want, and need, to haul around.

"We know we are trying to do here. We are not trying to be a truck. We are not going to get ground clearance out of this. You are not going to get towing capacity out of this," Zuchowski said. "You are going to get five passenger comfort. You are going to get flexibly and versatility. To do some things you want to do."

Reaction to the Santa Cruz was mixed. Some thought it was the coolest vehicle shown today at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit while others thought it was the ugliest.

Zuchowski said the crossover pickup is aimed at "urban adventurers."

"Or the landlocked surfer," quipped Andrew Mills on Twitter, who defines himself as a technology salesman.

Zuchowski said Hyundai hasn't decided if it is going build the Santa Cruz. That decision will be made after the automaker gauges reaction from the media and from consumers at auto shows this year.

The automaker also knows that it is exploring territory that other automakers have explored. The Chevrolet Avalanche, also a lifestyle pickup, was canceled after several years of production and the Honda Ridgeline has never been fully embraced by U.S. consumers. Honda sold just 13,389 Ridgelines in the U.S. last year.

Chrysler has explored the idea of a lifestyle pickup but has not been able to find the right combination of price, fuel economy and capability.

Zuchowski said the Avalanche was overpriced, a mistake Hyundai will not make. Still, there is a tremendous amount of competition in the pickup segment that includes new midsize entries such as a new Toyota Tacoma introduced today at the Detroit auto show as well as the midsize Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon that went on sale late last year.

"We know where the new GM products are price wise," Zuchowski said. "We have to be in that same ballpark. We know exactly where we need to be to be competitive and be in the sweet spot of the market."

Hyundai also unveiled a redesigned version of its Sonata hybrid sedan and an all-new plug-in Sonata hybrid today at the Detroit.

Hyundai expects a revised transmission, new batteries and a more powerful electric motor along with unique wheels to help distinguish the Sonata hybrid from the standard version.

The 2016 Sonata Hybrid's 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine offers 10% better fuel economy than the outgoing model.

Hyundai also launched its first plug-in hybrid today. The plug-in looks very much like the regular hybrid, except for the charging port on the driver-side front fender.

Together, the two unveiled cars fill out the lineup for the Sonata, Hyundai's second-best selling car or crossover.

The 2016 Hyundai Sonata Plug-in Hybrid will travel up to 22 miles on electric power and can recharge in as little as two and a half hours with a 240-volt charger, the automaker said.

The 50 kilowatt electric motor is 32% more powerful than the motor used in the regular Sonata Hybrid.

Like the Chevrolet Volt, the Sonata plug-in can continue to operate on gas after the battery is depleted. A 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine kicks in, producing 154 horsepower and 140 pound-feet of torque.

The Sonata Hybrid is scheduled to go on sale this summer, and the Sonata Plug-In Hybrid will go on sale sometime later this year.

Hyundai will build the Sonata Plug-in Hybrid at the Asan, South Korea, plant and will go on sale in select markets later this year.

2015 Lincoln Navigator : Current Models
2015 Lincoln Navigator : Current Models

The Navigator is a full-size SUV that sits at the very top of the Lincoln lineup. Well into its third generation, the Navigator shares the bulk of its mechanical components with the Ford Expedition but it stands out by offering more bling and a posh interior. In addition to the standard Navigator, Lincoln offers a long-wheelbase model called Navigator L that packs seven seats and a cavernous trunk.

Recent Changes
For the latest model year, Lincoln has tossed out the Navigator's 5.4-liter V8 mill and replaced it by a more fuel-efficient turbocharged V6. The Navigator also gets an updated front end that falls in line with Lincoln's latest design language.

The Navigator features an eye-catching front end with a bold rendition of Lincoln's trademarked split-wing grille, a thin air dam that stretches across the entire width of the lower bumper and a discreetly bulged hood. Out back, Lincoln's biggest and heaviest stands out from the Expedition on which it is based thanks to a sizable light bar that connects the tail lamps, emphasizing the SUV's width.

In spite of its super-sized dimensions, the Navigator is a breeze to park and nimble to drive thanks to a variable electric power steering system. Additionally, buyers can order Lincoln's comfort-enhancing Drive Control system at an extra cost. Drive Control uses a selection of sensors to scope out imperfections in the road and automatically adjust the suspension to provide a smoother ride.

Life Aboard
The Navigator's strong point is a luxurious interior with ample space for passengers in all three rows in part due to an independent rear suspension which frees up third row legroom and also pays dividends for handling. Cargo space is a healthy 18.6 cubic feet, increasing to 54.4 cubic feet with the third row seats folded.

All Navigators are equipped with SYNC, a Bluetooth-based connectivity system that allows smartphone users to place calls and stream music by using voice commands or steering wheel-mounted buttons. It can also read incoming texts aloud to help the driver keep his or her eyes on the road, and allows the use of Ford-approved apps like The Wall Street Journal news and Pandora radio.

Also included is MyLincoln Touch, an infotainment system that builds on SYNC by letting users control everything from navigation to climate control to the sound system with voice commands. MyLicoln Touch also replaces conventional sound system knobs and buttons with a center-mounted eight-inch touchscreen, a 4.2-inch display in the instrument cluster and touch-sensitive controls in the center stack. Many consumers report that the system is a "love it or hate it" item, so those interested in the Navigator are advised to try before they buy.

Under the Hood
The Navigator is powered by a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine that generates 380 horsepower at 5,250 rpms and 460 lb-ft. of torque at 2,750 rpms. Two turbochargers and direct fuel-injection provide plenty of low-end grunt and a smooth torque curve. The six-cylinder is linked to a six-speed automatic transmission that can be controlled via shift paddles mounted behind the steering wheel. Rear-wheel drive is standard, and four-wheel drive is available at an extra cost.

Lincoln estimates the most efficient Navigator returns 16 mpg in the city, 22 on the highway and 18 in a combined cycle. In its most powerful configuration, the luxurious behemoth can tow up to 9,000 pounds and haul 1,560 pounds.

Standard and Optional Features
The Navigator comes standard with heated and cooled front seats, a power-folding third row seat, a voice-activated navigation system, dual-zone automatic A/C, 10-way power-adjustable front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, 20-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry and go, a power liftgate, tinted windows, power-deployable running boards, rain-sensing wipers and parking sensors on both ends.

Buyers after a better-equipped Navigator can order the Reserve Package. It adds premium leather upholstery on the seats, the door panels and the dashboard, Ziricote wood trim, upgraded floor mats, a model-specific headliner, a two-tone exterior paint job, 22-inch polished aluminum wheels and Tuxedo Black power running boards.

The list of standalone options includes a power moonroof, chromed running boards and different alloy wheel designs.

Occupant Safety
All Navigators come standard with front, front side, and three-row side curtain airbags as well as Lincoln's patented inflatable seatbelt technology. Lincoln's biggest 'ute also packs a blind-spot monitoring system, a rear-view camera and trailer sway control.

Key Competitors
The Lincoln Navigator's closest rival is the Cadillac Escalade. Buyers can also look at the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class, the Audi Q7 and the Lexus LX.

Bentley Names Ultraluxe SUV : News

Bentley has decided that its upcoming luxury SUV will be called Bentayga, a name inspired by the natural world. Bentayga alludes both to the Taiga, the world’s largest transcontinental snow forest, and the rugged peak of the Roque Bentayga in the subtropical Canary Islands.

“Bentayga is a name that reflects what we know our SUV will do better than any other car in the world – combine the best automotive luxury with outstanding performance to take the Bentley experience to new environments,” said Wolfgang Dürheimer, Chairman and CEO of Bentley Motors.

The automaker has also released a new teaser photo depicting the lateral air outlets shaped in the form of the letter B, as well as a new video which reassures its target customers from the Middle East that the Bentayga will have no problem climbing steep sand dunes.

The SUV will be the first production Bentley to be offered with a plug-in hybrid option, possibly even with two variants, one with a petrol-electric solution and the other with a diesel-electric combination.

The entry-level model may get the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 petrol engine from the Continental and Flying Spur, while the range-topping version will feature the 6.0-liter twin-turbo W12 engine with over 600hp. Promising “an impressive combination of on and off road performance,” the Bentley Bentayga will be revealed later this year and will go on sale in 2016.
