Bentley And Vertu's Hyperexpensive Pact: News

Bentley has signed a five-year partnership with Vertu, the British luxury mobile phone brand.

The car maker has announced plans to launch a "Vertu for Bentley" phone in October, with four further phones to follow.

The phones will offer "exclusive Bentley content", that will appeal to “drivers, travellers and brand enthusiasts” alike, the statement from the Midlands-based car maker said.

Last month Vertu launched a new phone, the Signature Touch, which it hopes will counter criticism that its early products were high on style, but suffered in performance terms compared to cheaper, mainstream rivals.

VW-owned Bentley recently announced that 1,000 new jobs will be created as a result of the new SUV being built at the factory in Crewe.

"Bentley’s new partnership with Vertu brings together two world-leading brands, defined by their commitment to performance, luxury and customer experience," said Wolfgang Dürheimer, chairman and CEO of Bentley Motors. He added: "The collaboration expands Bentley’s luxury range into the cutting-edge world of mobile communications and offers customers a new way to experience the world of Bentley."

Vertu CEO Massimiliano Pogliani said: "This partnership will allow Vertu to fully integrate with the Bentley brand; phones will be jointly designed by the Vertu and Bentley design teams, based on a relationship that goes far deeper than the utilisation of materials and cues on design. We’re confident that the Vertu for Bentley phones will appeal to our mutual customers' desire for sophistication, craftsmanship and precision engineering."
