1951 Ferrari 340 America : Classic Cars

The ultimate evolution of the 166 chassis was the 'America' series. Aurelio Lampredi designed a long block version of the V12 engine which was used in Ferrari's Fl effort but also in the America sports cars.

The 340 and 342 shared the same 4.1-liter V12 engine, the 342 with reduced horsepower and all-synchro four-speed gearbox to suit its role more as a touring car. The 342 also had a longer wheelbase. The 1952 Ferrari 340 Mexico was an all-out racer. Ultra-desirable and extremely rare, hence stratospheric prices.

You can get started in a 340 America for about $600,000 - but the top prices are much higher, especially for open cars.
