Azerbaijan To Hold F1 Race in 2015 : News

It is being reported by multiple sources that the Formula One Korean Grand Prix will be replaced by a new race set to take place in Azerbaijan.

While no official announcements have been made as of yet, it is expected that Azerbaijan will announce its plans to hold a 2015 round of the F1 championship later this month. The race will likely take place in the capital city of Baku, where the city’s prominent Baku Flame Towers can be used as a dramatic backdrop.

“Baku has been signed,” Bernie Ecclestone told British newspaper, The Independent. “It will start in 2015 and will replace Korea.”

The Korean track was originally supposed to be the centerpiece of a much larger construction project that includes homes, shops and offices. These plans never came to fruition, however.

“They (Korea) did a good job with the track but what they forgot to do was build all the things they wanted to build,” Ecclestone criticized.

We expect to hear an official announcement regarding the future of Korea and Azerbaijan in the coming weeks.
