Project 7 Concept Racer : Concept Car

Jaguar takes the wraps off a concept car today with an intriguing name -- Project 7.

The two-seat convertible makes its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the United Kingdom, a car show of sorts, with the intention of showing what it can spin off the design for the 2014 F-Type.

The goal was to create a car that can be "driven fast and enjoyed," says Ian Callum, Jaguar's director of design. "Jaguar sports cars are known for exceptional performance and clean design. Project 7 captures that spirit in its purest form."

Its speed is derived from a light aluminum body and a 550-horsepower V-8 engine.

While the name might sound like Jaguar discarded six previous attempts at a decent Goodwood concept car before hitting upon lucky No. 7, it actually refers to its winning of Le Mans seven times between 1951 and 1990.
