2012 Affordable Large Car Ford Taurus : Award Winners

The Taurus is Ford’s full-size sedan and received a 2013 midcycle refresh that included the option of the 2.0 liter EcoBoost turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, the first Ford sedan to receive the 4-cylinder EcoBoost stateside. The Taurus was redesigned for 2010 to turn it into a flagship car with an emphasis on fun driving dynamics and a lower, sportier design. The roofline has been lowered by about three inches, the driving position is lowered about two inches and the exterior design incorporates shorter overhangs, a defined wedge shape and a rear end influenced by the Ford Interceptor concept from 2007. Inside, the center console is laid dramatically forward, and the interior has a sportier look, including some Mustang trim cues. The flagship theme continues with numerous amenities and safety and technology features. Taurus is one of the most recognized vehicle nameplates in the market and after a 2-year hiatus, the Taurus name returned to the Ford lineup as a 2008 model in the summer of 2007. The new Taurus was an updated version of the Five Hundred that had joined the Ford lineup for 2005 and replaced the Taurus for the 2006 and 2007 model years. When the Taurus was introduced in 1985, the unique styling created a buzz in the market and by 1987 it was Ford’s best-selling car. From 1992 to 1996, Taurus was the best-selling car in America. The 2000 Taurus was the first production car to offer power-adjustable brake and accelerator pedals.

2012 Porsche 928 : Current Models
2012 Porsche 928 : Current Models

The 928, Porsche's front-engine entry in the coupe GT market, never quite enjoyed the success of the signature sports car, the 911. Since Porsche stopped producing the 928 in 1995 after an 18-year run, the German automaker has gone without a front-engine coupe to compete with the likes of the BMW M6, Jaguar XKR, Aston-Martin DB9, and Mercedes CL-class. The 911, which remains much more the pure sports car than any of the coupes, has gradually moved farther upmarket and provides a sporting alternative to those cars, but it now appears that Porsche is developing a more direct competitor for the front-engine GTs, a coupe that sources suggest will be in showrooms by 2011. Porsche might even name it the 928.

Built on the platform that will underpin Porsche's 2009 Panamera four-door sports sedan, the unnamed two-door will ride on a shorter wheelbase but will share at least 60 percent of its parts with the Panamera. The sedan's control-arm front suspension and multilink rear will likely get firmer tuning in keeping with the coupe's sporting pretense. The shorter wheelbase will reduce the coupe's weight and improve its handling, but the reduction will come at the expense of rear-seat space. As in the 911, the back seats will likely only be suitable for children, insolent teens, and mothers-in-law.

Coupe buyers will choose from a selection of Porsche's next-generation direct-injection-equipped V-8 engines. The Cayenne SUV will also get these new V-8s. Power is expected to be about 350 horses upward, with turbo versions making in excess of 500. There are rumors regarding a possible 6.0-liter V-10, which would reportedly make about 650 horsepower. Transmission choices should mirror those found in the Panamera — a seven-speed, dual-clutch DSG in the automatic role and a six-speed manual for those who insist on traditional shifting. There are no plans for an all-wheel-drive version. Like the 928 that preceded it, this coupe will be rear-wheel drive, with a transaxle helping to balance weight distribution.

Pricing for this front-engine Porsche will likely begin where the naturally aspirated 911's leaves off, a base version of the coupe going for about $100,000, with prices of higher-horsepower versions rising quickly into the rare $150,000-plus stratosphere, where the Bentley Continental GT rules.

Automotive Traveler Magazine : Magazines
Automotive Traveler is a new kind of magazine. It’s about breaking conventions. It’s about indulging in passions, be they travel or automotive, and combining them in a unique package.

For Automotive Traveler, we made the decision almost from the start that we would be primarily an online venture. Yes, you’ll be able to print out the pages you want from the PDF version but the real experience of Automotive Traveler will come from reading it dynamically.

Automotive Traveler is horizontally-oriented from the very beginning, taking full advantage of all of the visual real estate offered by your computer screen. We’re not going to be taking two existing magazine pages, putting them side-by-side, and trying to stuff them on your screen; this isn’t the solution.

Automotive Traveler presents a very magazine-like presentation of our content; no scrolling, no zooming, just flipping the online pages as like you would with a “real” magazine. For people who grew up with magazines, who are comfortable with traditional print publications, we felt that this was the best of both worlds.

And when it comes to content, the heart and soul of any magazine, print or online, what is more basic than travel and cars? We all like to take vacations and we all drive. Some of us are more passionate than others about both these topics. If you fall into this category, if you’re passionate about cars and travel, you’ve come to the right place.

The backbone of each issue of Automotive Traveler will be the features. First, of the four stories, two will usually cover North American drives and destinations, the other two will cover the rest of the world. And one of the four will typically be what we call a grand adventure, like the Ferrari Panamerican 20,000 in our first issue. (Read More)

GRAVEDIGGER and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle dazzled the crowd last Saturday night at Interlake Dragway.

This pair of behemoths from the popular Monster Jam series laid down a pile of rubber, made high-speed passes down the drag strip and when it got dark, Grave Digger jumped over a pile of old cars.

Oh yeah, and there was also a pair of jet-powered funny cars that shoot flames out the back.Wow, I'm pretty sure you're angry you missed that.

Trust me -- it wasn't the heat. All this stuff happened and more. No worries though. Despite a new name, our local track hasn't abandoned its drag-racing roots -- the Monster Jam event was orchestrated to tempt folks who may not regularly attend the drag races to come out and see what all the noise is about.

If the massive crowd on hand was any indication, it's fair to say it was a raging success. Interlake Dragway (formerly Gimli Dragway) is located just a few minutes west of Gimli. Earlier this year, Darryl Wruck and his wife, Brandy, submitted the winning bid to operate the track. They also opted to change the name. Although the RM of Gimli maintains ownership of the drag strip and the surrounding property, the couple is in charge of all aspects of this year's racing season. The Wrucks are seasoned drag racers. Even their teenage son, Justin, is an accomplished racer, so it's a sure bet the track is in good hands.

Although sport utility vehicles have been around for many years, in the 1990s they were king.
Automakers couldn't build enough of them, profits were huge and families lined up to buy them. Say what you want about the styling and fuel economy of these truck/wagon combos, but there was no denying the practicality they delivered. Soccer moms and hockey dads utilized them to move players around town, while outdoor enthusiasts packed them full of gear and hit the road less travelled.

Fast forward to the late '90s and beyond and thanks to surging gas prices a new player emerged, the compact sport utility vehicle. Offerings from practically all the big manufacturers entered the market and included the Ford Escape, Jeep Liberty, Toyota RAV4 and the Honda CR-V.

With many of the same appealing features as a full-sized SUV but lower prices and improved fuel economy, these mini-marvels not only replaced many larger SUVs in family garages, but also put a major dent in the minivan market.

Because the popularity of these compact cruisers really only came into play in the last decade, finding one used for a bargain has been all but impossible. But in recent months, they are finally starting to come down in price.

If your idea of fun is driving, showing and shining your classic or special-interest vehicle, there is no doubt you have had enough of this wet weather, but have no fear fellow cruisers -- we are only in June and thanks to the hard work and dedication of countless volunteers in the local cruising community, this summer promises a number of well-orchestrated events.

Every Sunday, local cruisers can enjoy fun-filled nights at either the Grant Park Pony Corral restaurant or the Tavern United on Regent Avenue. In addition to Sunday fun, the Pins and Fins Car Show runs every Wednesday evening at the Roxy Bowling Lanes, 385 Henderson Highway, and on Saturday nights, it's worth the trip to Steinbach and a visit to the freshly minted Bumpers on 52 diner for tasty treats and a bevy of beautiful cars, trucks and motorcycles.

There are also packed race schedules at both the Interlake Dragway (formerly the Gimli Dragway) in Gimli and at the Red River Co-op Speedway. Here's a few upcoming car shows that may also get your motor running:

-- The Manitoba Oldsmobile Car Club (MOCC) invites all classic and special-interest cruisers to attend their first annual car show on Sunday at Jim's Vintage Garage on the main drag in Headingley.
-- If motorcycles turn your crank, you will want to check out the 12th annual Buffalo Rally being held by the Antique Motorcycle Club of Manitoba in Niverville. The rally takes place from June 29-July 1 and includes meals, a road ride and entertainment.

Cruisin' ... on a Saturday Afternoon
Author : Pete Misiak

They come from everywhere imaginable — from down the street and from crosstown, from out of town and out of state, from around the country and around the world — all descending on a stretch of Woodward Avenue in southeast Michigan from Pontiac to the State Fair Grounds in Detroit.

Every third Saturday in August, the Woodward Dream Cruise draws an estimated one million spectators, not to mention the tens of thousands of classic cars (and their owners) traversing the route. And, this year was no different.

Organizers say the Woodward Dream Cruise is the world’s largest one-day automotive event, with muscle cars, street rods, custom, collector and special interest vehicles dating across several decades on display. Astute car watchers will glimpse restored Valiants, DeSotos, Plymouths and Imperials wending their way along Woodward, plus eyeballing many more models and designs from years past.

A plumber from Ferndale, Mich., Nelson House, is credited with coming up with the Cruise idea in 1994 as a way to raise money to build a children’s soccer field in his community. Organizers thought about 40,000 people would show up; instead, close to 250,000 were on hand for that first Cruise in 1995. Today, the Woodward Dream Cruise brings in more than $50 million annually to the Metro Detroit economy.

Chrysler Group contributed to the overall automotive atmosphere by offering classic cars and current models at its large display on the corner of 13 Mile Road and Woodward. Close to 75 cars — old and new — were on site.

And as for the Cruise? All you had to do was walk a few steps from “Camp Chrysler” to watch those vintage cars roll by. (Read More

Car : 2012 Chrysler 200-S
Author : Peter Spezia

Have you ever had aspirations to appear in the next viral video, racking up the views on YouTube?

For those who answered yes, your opportunity is coming next week. And Chrysler Group is providing the ride to make it happen.

The Chrysler brand and Pure Michigan have teamed up to work with Status Creative on the media firm's next big project. The premise is simple, but daunting. Jeff Barrett and Rob Bliss - Status Creative's Michigan-born co-founders - will be venturing on a road trip across the Great Lakes State from August 19-26. Things become complicated, however, when the trip's full agenda lasts for one week and includes 50 Michigan cities. The two media makers hope to tell the story of what Michigan has to offer in the form of an inspiring video, by using footage they will capture along their adventure.

The Chrysler brand's assistance comes in the form of the vehicle used for the trip. Jeff and Rob will be traveling across Michigan in a red 2012 Chrysler 200-S. As Jeff puts it, "because it's a road trip, we need a great vehicle for it. Chrysler, with their 'Imported from Detroit' message and commitment to Michigan, is a perfect partner. Plus, the 200-S is built here in Sterling Heights."

Those who peruse YouTube videos may remember Status Creative's most recent Michigan-centric, viral hit. In May 2011, the firm produced a lip-dub video in Grand Rapids, Michigan that involved 5,000 people. The 10-minute video features Don McLean's classic song "American Pie" as the camera passes through the western Michigan city. In fact, the video was so well made that it won the award for "Best Use of Video in Social Media" from PR Newswire.

At this point, you're probably wondering how you can be a part of this summer's video project. Our best recommendation would be to follow Jeff Barrett on Twitter @BarrettAll along with the hashtag #PureMichigan. Jeff will post updates regarding where interested individuals may show up and contribute.
At the very least, you'll be able to see the Chrysler 200-S that's helping complete the journey. (Read More)

'Fast Jack' Beckman Honored Tonight
Author : Pete Misiak

here are not many race car drivers that can say they’ve been given the “key to the dragstrip.”
After tonight, Jack Beckman can.

Beckman will be honored in front of thousands of fans, friends and family this evening at the Irwindale (Calif.) Dragstrip, which is near his boyhood home in Granada Hills and just a stone’s throw from his current residence in Norco.

"This guy is one of our true local heroes,” says Irwindale facilities manager Bob Klein. “Everyone loves "Fast" Jack Beckman. He's a real winner in all of our books, and this chance to tell him that right here at our little strip is a big deal for all of us."

But tonight’s festivities are not all pomp and celebration for the 46-year-old Beckman.

MoparMax.com is putting him to work as crew chief on their Maulin' Magnum race car, driven by young drag racing phenom and MoparMax.com Contributing Editor Alex Rogeo.

Jack has instructed more than 7,000 students at Frank Hawley's Drag Racing School since 1998 and he'll be giving Alex instruction and advice that she'll share with her readers in an upcoming MoparMax.com issue.

And, in case you didn’t know, Jack is quite proficient behind the wheel. He pilots the Valvoline NextGen Nitro Funny Car for Don Schumacher Racing in championship drag racing events across the country. As of March 2010, the Mopar-powered driver has nine career NHRA National Event Championships, including seven as a pro (all in Funny Car) and two as a sportsman driver (1998 and 2003 NHRA Winternationals in Super Competition). He has competed in 18 final rounds in NHRA National Event Competition. (Read More

1969 Corvette : Classic Cars
1969 Corvette : Classic Cars

The 1968 Corvette introduced the market to the third generation of the Corvette, better known as the Stingray.  When the first C3 hit the streets it sported a sleek new body and improved interior, but the engine options were carried over from 1967.  The 1969 Corvette Stingray saw few aesthetic changes but buyers did get some of the new engine options that they had hoped for in 1968.

The base model engine was a new 350 cubic inch small block making the same 300 horsepower as the 1968 base model 327 and the optional small block was the same 350hp 327 that was offered in 1968.  The 390 and 400 horsepower variants of the 427 big block were also offered for the 1969 Stingray and the premium 427 Tri-Power L88 big block was still available with an advertised 435 horsepower.

The biggest engine news for the 1969 Corvette Stingray was the introduction of the ZL1 engine package.  This was similar in design to the L88 427 but the ZL1 used an aluminum engine block and cylinder heads and with some special tuning efforts this $4,700 offered an advertised 430 horsepower.  In reality, the ZL1 Corvette Stingray made closer to 530 horsepower and some sources within GM have stated that with further tuning, the ZL1 427ci big block was capable of making over 700 horsepower.

The physical changes to the 1969 Corvette Stingray were the addition of 8-inch wide wheels rather than the 7-inch wheels offered in 1968, as well as Stingray nameplates, blacked out front grill inserts, front fender vents and a side exit exhaust system.  Along with these changes came an increase in price, as the 1969 Corvette Stingray would set a new buyer back $4,780 – $117 more than the previous year’s Stingray.

Finally, to give the 1969 Corvette Stingray a little more comfort and a sportier feel for the driver, the 1969 model came with revised door panels to offer more shoulder and arm space and a new 17-inch black vinyl-wrapped steering wheel.  By year’s end, the changes to the 1969 Corvette were enough to boost sales by more than 30% with 38,462 Stingrays sold during the 1969 model year.  The 1969 model year also benefited from another delay, as the 1970 model was not ready until very late in the 1969 calendar year, allowing dealerships to sell new 1969 Corvettes until December of that year.

Highway Terror: Rad Scary Customized...
Highway Terror: Rad Scary Customized Skull Hot Rod : News

There probably isn’t a much scarier scenario than looking in your car’s rear-view mirror and seeing a glowing skull rushing at you from the darkness. This insane modified car was spotted at the Greenwood Car Show, and it’s enough to make anyone impressed and a little scared all at once.

It’s called the Defibrillator, probably because it’s awesome enough to restart a faltering heart. It’s based on an original steel-bodied Ford that’s been cut, chopped, shaved and modded beyond recognition. It’s powered by a 1957 Chrysler “Fire Power” 392 Hemi, and the nitrous system blows out through the nose of the skull.

The Defibrillator looks like it was inspired, at least partially, by the Ghost Rider motorcycle. But whether or not the creator pulled inspiration from that legendary bike, this car is one stunning and unforgettable mod.

2012 Man of the Year Award : Peter Schreyer...
2012 Man of the Year Award : Peter Schreyer : Award Winners

The automobile industry knows design is important, so enormous energy and funding is applied to it, but it's famously difficult to know how effective those efforts and expenditures really are. Except in one precise, clear-cut case: Kia's.

Six years ago, Kia cars were nondescript tin boxes of no particular consequence in the grand scheme of things, sold on price and certainly not as world-class desirable objects. Today's Kia range is admired, respected, even envied. Its cars are well-made, good performers, and -- above all -- good-looking. That quality can essentially be attributed to one man, Peter Schreyer, chief design officer for Kia and our unanimously chosen Man of the Year.

Peter Schreyer
Despite his youthful appearance and vitality, Schreyer, 58, is an industry veteran, having spent more than half his lifetime in automobile design, first with Audi in 1980, then at Volkswagen, and back to Audi as its chief designer from 1994 to 2002, wherein he was instrumental in Audi's worldwide recognition as a premium design brand. Schreyer was personally acknowledged with the highest design award of the Federal Republic of Germany and an honorary doctorate from the Royal College of Art, where he studied in 1979 and 1980.

Schreyer doesn't have to claim to be a car guy; he's the real thing. Impressed in his youth by the Jaguar E-type and the Porsche 911, he owned a Fiat X1/9 at twenty-one, and today he has a supercharged Pininfarina Spider Azzura (Fiat 124) roadster and a V-12-powered E-type coupe. He has a Frankfurt apartment during the week, but he kept the family home near Ingolstadt so his teenage children weren't uprooted from their schools when he joined Kia in 2006.

1957 Chevy Bel Air : Classic Cars
1957 Chevy Bel Air : Classic Cars

The ’57 Chevy is one of the most recognized icons in the Automotive industry. Stylish and Sporty the there’s no doubt that it’s one of America’s best and most loved cars. The 1957 Chevrolet a few different trim levels; the base-model "150" series, the mid-range "210" series, and the upscale Bel Air series. An upscale trim option called the "Del Ray" was also available for 210 2-door sedans, and there was a limited production two-door station wagon called the "Nomad" and also even scarcer was the "El Morocco", a custom hand-built series that mimicked the Cadillac.

Under the hood Chevrolet had achieved an engineering milestone, Ed Cole worked magic developing Chevy’s small-block V8 engine. The original edition was enlarged to 283 cu, with several optional power packages available, pushing it up to 283 hp. The Super Turbo-Fire 283, a $550 option, produced the advertised 283 horsepower with the help of Ramjet continuous-flow fuel injection. On the outside the Bel Air was distinguished with more chrome and featured a golden grille set off with a heavy chrome bar that included parking lights. The rear fins were capped with chrome moldings and highlighted with anodized aluminum side trim panels. The fuel-filler door was concealed in the left rear chrome fin trim, a small but convenient detail that helped clean up exterior lines.

The 1955-57 Chevrolets remain a favorite with hot-rodders and classic car enthusiasts.

BMW Vision ConnectedDrive : Concept Cars
BMW Vision ConnectedDrive : Concept Cars

The BMW Vision ConnectedDrive Concept is meant to explore the possibilities of mobile networking and integrated technologies—with some really cool mood lighting thrown in for visual effect. This is the concept car for anyone addicted to Tron, a four-wheeled technical tour de force where apps are as important as rpm. An integrated head-up display can list information about the road ahead in 3-Dimensional format. You could feasibly bring up restaurant reviews, movie times, weather and road conditions, or see address numbers without taking your eyes off the road. A color display replaces the traditional analog readouts in the instrument cluster and is completely customizable—the front passenger can move information onto the driver’s screen, when needed. The exterior is a mix of futuristic roadster, with a hint of BMW’s old Z1 production car (the one with doors that dropped down). And, of course, snaking throughout the Vision ConnectedDrive Concept are fiber-optic cables that glow reddish-orange, blue, or green depending on their location.

Eric Goplen : Designers And Engineers
Eric Goplen : Designers And Engineers

American designer born as Erik Kristopher Goplen in Eugene, Oregon, Eric was raised in Los Angeles, as the son of an architect and a piano teacher. He designed his first car at the age of 8, he went to Birmingham High School in California (1980-1984). Eric later studied engineering at the California State University of Northridge (Cal State Northridge: 1984-1989) and Goplen had been an intern at Designworks as almost 20 years old student

Goplen started his designer's career in January of 1987 at Superior Industries International - one of the world's largest suppliers of cast and forged aluminum wheels for cars (also for BMW). Moving already in June of 1987 to then owned by Charles Pelly Designworks, he was with BMW in Munich from 1996-2008 and worked as a Creative Director at Designworks, Newbury Park, California

Goplen designed the BMW E46 3 series, contributed to the design of the Z4 (2002-2004) and designed the second generation of the BMW F25 X3 (2011), the car which reminds at the rear X5 It's also the first BMW where the characteristic for the new models "zicke line" does not go straight, but drops down dramatically although we have some doubts about the design of the front and the headlights line we really like this car.

Goplen says "I usually start by hand, small point, and then from that aspect, scan it in, get it into Photoshop, do some computer modeling around it loosely myself, but usually give it on to the modelers.  Then, as soon as possible, get it into a clay model.  A scale model I really enjoy (quoted after Gotryke)".

Goplen is an avid classic car collector - he owns 1969 De Tomaso Mangusta.

Car : BMW F25 X3

Let's be frank, the first generation X3 wasn't much of a looker. So for the second-gen model BMW's smoothed out the kinks, giving the car a far more modern and upmarket appearance, although it still falls short of the chunky good looks of the bigger X5.

Two engines have been announced for the new X3 so far: a 135kW/380Nm 2-litre turbo-diesel (dubbed xDrive20d) and a 3-litre turbocharged petrol six-cylinder (christened xDrive35i) that generates 225kW of power and 400Nm of torque; both come fitted with four-wheel drive as standard. Respectively they complete the zero to 100km/h in 8.5 and 5.7 seconds and, in official European testing, fuel consumption is pegged at 5.6 and 8.8L/100km.

Overseas, the new X3 can be packed with all manner of kit, including two-zone climate control, a panorama sunroof, headlights that follow the steering, automatic control for the headlight's high-beam, smart cruise control, head-up display, engine start-stop, Bluetooth hands-free and streaming audio, and a reversing camera.

The X3 can also be fitted with the latest generation iDrive entertainment and navigation system that we know and love. While we're certain that we'll get that system's hard-disk media storage and iPod connectivity, we're not entirely hopeful that internet-reliant features, such as web access, Google search, news and weather services, and enhanced traffic info will be coming down under. Ciara Princess Harris (born October 25, 1985), known mononymously as Ciara, is an American singer, songwriter, dancer, actress and fashion model. Born in Austin, Texas, she traveled around the world during her childhood, only to land in Atlanta, Georgia where she met music producer Jazze Pha. With his help, she signed a record deal with LaFace Records.

In 2004, Ciara released her debut studio album Goodies, which spawned three hit singles: "Goodies," "1, 2 Step," and "Oh." The album was certified triple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), and earned her four nominations at the 48th Grammy Awards. The album reached number one in the US and was certified platinum. Her third studio album Fantasy Ride, released in 2009, was considerably less successful than Ciara's first two albums. In 2011, she signed a new record deal with Epic Records, and is preparing to release her upcoming fifth studio album, One Woman Army, which will be preceded by the lead single, "Sorry."

Since making her musical debut in 2004, Ciara has attained eight Billboard Hot 100 top-ten singles, including a number one. She has also earned numerous awards and accolades, including three BET Awards, three MTV Video Music Awards, three MOBO Awards, and one Grammy Award. Bugatti 16C Galibier : Concept Cars
Bugatti 16C Galibier : Concept Cars

The Bugatti 16C Galibier is a luxury 5-door hatchback concept. Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S. debuted the 16C Galibier at an invitation-only show held at the Molsheim, France assembly salon on September 12, 2009. The 16C Galibier uses a front-mounted, 8.0L, twin-turbocharged W16 engine that delivers power via permanent all-wheel drive.

A production version of the 16C Galibier concept, expected to be named the Royale is scheduled to reach the market in 2015.

The 16C Galibier name is a reference to the Bugatti Type 57 Galibier. Bugatti traditionally gave Type 57 variants names that referred to mountain passes. Galibier refers to France's Col du Galibier. The "16C" refers to the engine's 16 cylinders.

The 16C Galibier features a hood which opens in two parts along a central hinge. The 16C Galibier features the longitudinal rib also seen on the previous EB118 and EB218 concepts that references the longitudinal body seam of the Type 57SC Atlantic. (Read More)

The Daytona 500 is regarded as the most important and prestigious race on the NASCAR calendar, carrying by far the largest purse. Championship points awarded are equal to that of any other Sprint Cup race. It is also the series' first race of the year; this phenomenon is virtually unique in sports, which tend to have championships or other major events at the end of the season rather than the start. Since 1995, U.S. television ratings for the Daytona 500 have been the highest for any auto race of the year, surpassing the traditional leader, the Indianapolis 500 which in turn greatly surpasses the Daytona 500 in in-track attendance and international viewing.

The 2006 Daytona 500 attracted the sixth largest average live global TV audience of any sporting event that year with 20 million viewers.Due to the race starting at 7pm EST on Monday and a two hour red flag period, the race ended Tuesday, February 28 at 1am EST. It was also announced that the race will stay on the last weekend of February for its 55th running, and take place on February 24th, 2013. The winner of the Daytona 500 is presented with the Harley J. Earl Trophy in Victory Lane, and the winning car is displayed, in race-winning condition, for one year at Daytona 500 Experience, a museum and gallery adjacent to Daytona International Speedway.
